Core Cycling Projects

The City has recently completed projects that are improving cycling connections through and into the core area, adding approximately 3 kilometres of new cycling infrastructure to the City’s active transportation network.

Projects currently under construction:

Construction in 2022 includes:

adding in-boulevard bike lanes on both sides of Ridout Street between Fullarton and King Street, as part of the Downtown Loop.
improving cycling on Queens Ave between Quebec Street and Maitland Street by switching the location of the bike lane and the on-street parking area, to provide a smooth road for all users and a more comfortable walking and cycling experience.
replacement of the existing Victoria Street Bridge on Ridout Street next to Thames Park with a new “through arch” structure that includes a widened deck surface to better accommodate bicycle traffic, pedestrians, and improved connectivity with the Thames Valley Parkway.

Dundas Street TVP Connection

The Dundas Street TVP Connection improves the link for pedestrians and cyclists between the Thames Valley Parkway (TVP) and Downtown, making it easier to reach existing transit routes, as well as planned rapid transit stops for this area.

Colborne Cycle Track Extension

In 2021 the original Colborne Street cycle track between Horton Street and Dufferin Avenue was extended north to Oxford Street East.

Dundas Cycle Track

The Dundas Cycle Track project connects Downtown with Old East Village by creating a permanent, separated east-west cycling route on Dundas Street between Wellington Street and Adelaide Street North. The west end of the project connects into Dundas Place and the east end of the project connects into the new separated bike lane added along the south side of Dundas between Adelaide and Ontario Streets as part of infrastructure renewal work completed in the Old East Village in 2021.
