Long term water storage study

The City of London is supplied with water from both the Lake Huron Regional Water Supply System and the Elgin Area Water Supply System (Lake Erie).

To address future water storage needs, the City is undertaking a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) study to determine a preferred site (or sites) for additional water storage to meet future growth and ongoing emergency supply and distribution needs.  Additionally, this project will consider the feasibility of retiring the existing Springbank Reservoir #2 and the previously disconnected McCormick Reservoir, as well as options for standby power for the water distribution pumps at the existing Arva Pump Station.

Current status

This study completed on July 11, 2019. A review period completed on August 26, 2019. The City is proceeding to detailed design, approvals and construction. The preferred alternative identified constructing a new larger 100ML reservoir on an expanded footprint for the existing Springbank #2 Reservoir. 

The City is currently preparing a terms of reference for engineering services for the Springbank Reservoir #2 replacement and expansion. It is anticipated that this work will take place in 2023.

The City has also retained engineering services for the abandonment of the McCormick Reservoir as part of the McCormick Storm Water Management Pond expansion. It is anticipated that this work will take place in 2021.
